commotion of hornbills

In the morning light, far above the trees, I watch four hornbills; large, black-casked hornbills, drifting effortlessly on the rising thermal. They are immersed in lively conversations, their long black tails rudder easy circles, wings hook at the elbows, and sturdy bills slice through the thick air in prehistoric silhouette, perfect, for an African sky…
