Upland pines in fog

Sunlight struggles to pierce a morning fog in an upland pine forest of Southwest Florida. Cabbage palms and slash pines tower above an understory of saw palmettos, wax myrtles and rusty lyonia in this subtropical environment.

dilemma

Hikers pause along the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (CREW) Bird Rookery Trail in NE Naples, Florida. Sunning alligators are common along the trail. Most will move from the trail when approached, but some are more reluctant.
