forest, Vera Plaine

A forest in Vera Plaine, thick with humidity, crawling with lianas, alive with birdsong, the chorus of crickets, and the swish of monkeys through the canopy.

Deep in a Gabon rainforest the humidity soars, the thick atmosphere choking a breeze barely perceptible in the tree-tops.  Elephants live here, and have possibly stood by with invisible stillness as I slip silently through the forest.  If I pause long enough, monkeys may stir in the canopy above.  Hornbills sail overhead, their hollow primaries churning the air like blades of a helicopter.  Cuckoo melodies drift light as feathers from high above, swallowed by armies of crickets hiding below.
