Drawing a crowd on Broad Street

Monrovia, Liberia.    Hey! ‘member me? ‘member me?! A soldier is in my face, so close I step back to have a better look. Now I see my friend “Special Forces”. He is lively and has drawn a crowd on Broad Street in downtown Monrovia. He has an act, a routine of moves from his days as child soldier. His diverse audience includes people too young to have lived through Liberia’s civil war, a war that lingers in the mind of my friend every day.

His reenactment of war memories appears triggered by post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Mostly the crowd finds him entertaining, though some are alarmed by his behavior.
