Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. Some great news to share. After a bitterly cold and challenging winter in Minnesota, Lisa and I have relocated to Florida. Lisa has become Director of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. “Director of a swamp?” you might ask… Let me explain. It is a beautiful sanctuary of some 13,000 acres located in southern Florida, less than an hour northeast of Naples. Protected by Audubon, Corkscrew is part of the Everglades ecosystem. Containing several miles of boardwalk and trails through pine woods, prairies, marshlands and swamps, the Sanctuary conserves the largest old growth bald cypress forest left standing in North America.

Swamp lily, palmetto palm, bald cypress, strangler fig; otter, panther, bobcat, wild pig.   Ibis, spoonbill, limpkin, barred owl; redbelly turtle, cottonmouth, alligator, green anole.   Argiope, pondhawk, dagger wing, apple snail, amazing little discoveries along the boardwalk trail.
